The Bridgewater Motor Company Ltd. was established in 1905 in Eastover, Bridgewater, Somerset, England. The company originated from Harry Carver’s Cycle Works, which had been in operation since 1887. By the early 1900s, the business expanded its services to include repairs for motorcycles and automobiles, and it became an agent for De Dion-Bouton and MMC cars in 1902.

Bridgewater produced its first automobile in 1905, focusing on assembled vehicles that utilized chassis from Malicet et Blin and engines sourced from Ballot or White & Poppe. The engines offered included 16/20 and 24/30 horsepower options from Ballot, as well as 12 and 14 horsepower variants from White & Poppe, all featuring four-cylinder T-head configurations. The bodies for these vehicles were crafted by the local firm Raworth & Co.

Production at Bridgewater was limited, with only about 11 or 12 cars manufactured, primarily sold within the local area. Following this brief foray into car production, the company shifted its focus back to selling various makes of automobiles, maintaining a long-standing association with Austin that lasted for 40 years. In 1980, Bridgewater transitioned to selling Renault vehicles, but ultimately ceased operations in 1994.
