Brand Data

Company Name: Autogears

Place: Leeds, Yorkshire

Country: United Kingdom

Autogear was a short-lived automobile manufacturer based in Leeds, Yorkshire, operating between 1922 and 1923. The company produced vehicles that were notably less conventional than their contemporaries. The Autogear was introduced shortly after the Foster (I) and shared design elements with the Stanhope three-wheeler.

The Autogear featured a unique beltdrive system that powered a single front wheel, utilizing a Blackbume V-twin engine, which distinguished it from the Stanhope that employed a V-twin JAP engine. In 1923, the Stanhope model was rebranded as the Bramham, and both the Autogear and the Stanhope were intended to be manufactured in Ireland under the name Leprachan.

The production of Autogear was attributed to McLysaght & Douglas, a company based in Dublin, while the Stanhope was marketed by W.E.S. Gilmour, also from Dublin. It is possible that Gilmour was involved in the sales of both vehicle brands.
