Brand Data

Company Name: Albany Motor Carriage Company

Place: Christchurch, Dorset

Country: United Kingdom

The Albany Motor Carriage Company was established in Christchurch, Dorset, in 1971. The company emerged from an engineering firm that sought to utilize its spare capacity by entering the automotive market. Albany specialized in producing replicas of vintage cars, a trend that gained popularity in the United States during that era. The company's first model was inspired by the 1908 Buick 2-seater.

Albany's vehicles were built on a unique tubular steel chassis and incorporated components from the Morris Minor, including a 948cc engine. To ensure safety and compliance with regulations, the engine was fitted with a governor that limited the top speed to 40 mph (64 km/h). In 1974, Albany introduced a version powered by a governed Triumph Spitfire 1500 engine, and in 1976, they expanded their offerings with a long wheelbase five-seater model.

Despite the initial success of their replicas, Albany faced increasing competition from more affordable alternatives in the market. This financial pressure ultimately led to the company's closure in 1981, marking the end of its brief but notable presence in the automotive industry.
