Abingdon Works Ltd was a British automobile manufacturer active for a brief period between 1922 and 1923. Based in Tyseley, Birmingham, the company was primarily known for producing the Abingdon King Dick spanner and A.K.D. motorcycles. The firm ventured into the automotive industry by creating a light car powered by a 1490cc Dorman 54 four-cylinder engine, which was paired with a three-speed gearbox and a spiral bevel rear axle supplied by Wrigley.
The reliance on Wrigley for critical components proved to be a significant challenge for Abingdon Works. When Wrigley was acquired for the production of Morris Commercial vehicles, Abingdon lost its supplier and did not seek an alternative source for parts. This disruption, coupled with the likely unprofitability of car manufacturing, led to the cessation of production after only 12 units of the Abingdon car were built.
