Yue Loong was founded in Taipei in 1953 as Yue Loong Engineering Co. Ltd, becoming Yue Loong Motor Co. Ltd in 1960 and continuing under that name until 1997. It was the first car manufacturer established in Taiwan. The company entered into an agreement with the Nissan Motor Co. to assemble various Datsun models locally.
