Proton Holdings Berhad, styled as Proton, was a Malaysian multinational automotive company headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor, with additional facilities in Proton City, Perak. The company was established on 7 May 1983 as Malaysia's sole national budget car manufacturer, a status it held until the emergence of Perodua in 1993.
