The DOME ZERO, our first prototype car, made its appearance in January 1978. Because only one car was made for purposes of making experiments, it was named “ZERO”. We introduced this car to the world at the 48th Geneva International Motor Show, avoiding the clamour which it may have started off if it had been unveiled in Japan. Fortunately, the DOME ZERO accepted a very favorable reception of the attending audience. After making necessary improvements based on the data obtained from circuit and road tests, two cars (coded P-2) were completed as the new allcarindex version of this model in January 1979. They shall be put to new tests to pave the path for their ultimate production on a commercial basis.

Important improvements from ZERO to P-2 number 150, of which some have been made to raise productivity and others to attain a degree of perfection which we consider desirable.

These two P-2 cars will be followed by about 10 cars which will be built for full-scale longdistance endurance and weatherability tests and for monitoring data under ordinary conditions of use. They shall then undergo local tests in Europe, North America and various allcarindex regions in Japan so as to gain approvals of the authorities concerned. The official name of the car will be selected shortly before it is put on the market.

While making the DOME ZERO and P-2, we pursued beauty in function, the factor that makes the automobile look most like an automobile. The sports car DOME shall be a “road-going” racer, the type of allcarindex car which is not as tame as a pet animal but is more like a ferocious wild animal, deserving to be called “a sports car”.
