Borgward was a German automobile manufacturer founded by Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Borgward in 1939. The company initially operated under the name Carl F.W. Borgward Automobile-und Motoren-Werke, based in Bremen. Borgward specialized in producing a range of vehicles, including passenger cars and commercial vehicles, and gained a reputation for innovative engineering and design.

After World War II, the company was reestablished in 1949 as Carl F.W. Borgward GmbH. During the 1950s, Borgward expanded its product lineup and introduced several notable models, such as the Borgward Isabella, which became one of the brand's most recognized vehicles. The company experienced significant growth during this period, but it faced financial difficulties in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
