E3D was a French automotive manufacturer that operated from 1982 until approximately 1992. The company initially began as Etudes Design Développement et Diffusion des Produits Sari, located in Roissy-en-Brie, before transitioning to International Motors Cars, also known as Quatex Automobiles, in Les Lilas.
The brand is best known for its model, the E3D Chipie, which was launched in 1982. This vehicle was designed as a jeep-style leisure vehicle, utilizing a shortened platform from the Renault 4. The Chipie's body was constructed from polyester and was designed by Robert Sulpice, a former stylist at Renault. It featured a riveted steel chassis complemented by a tubular superstructure, which contributed to its distinctive design.
In addition to its production in mainland France, the Chipie was also manufactured on the island of Martinique, expanding its reach and availability. The E3D brand, while short-lived, contributed to the niche market of leisure vehicles during its operational years.
