Ajax was a French automobile brand established in 1913 by Benjamin and Frank Briscoe, who had previously worked with the US Motor Corporation. The company was based in Neuilly, Seine, and aimed to produce the Ajax cyclecar on a large scale, combining French craftsmanship with American business management principles.

The Ajax cyclecar was equipped with a 980cc four-cylinder engine and utilized a friction drive system. It was marketed at an affordable price, equivalent to £78 at the time. However, the onset of World War I interrupted the production plans of the company, leading the Briscoe brothers to return to the United States. Upon their return, they developed a new model called the ARGO, which retained similarities to the Ajax but featured a conventional gearbox instead of the friction drive.
