Apollo

Apollo was a small manufacturer of Volkswagen-based street buggies, produced by Apollo Fibreglass Industries in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia.

Entering the buggy market relatively late, the Apollo distinguished itself from competitors primarily through its sports-oriented styling and the inclusion of a T-top roof. In most other respects, however, the vehicle followed the conventions established by other VW-based buggies of the era, using a fibreglass body mounted on a modified Volkswagen chassis and running gear.

The Apollo appears to have had a brief production run before being succeeded by the Kalita in 1974, another short-lived attempt to market the buggy concept as a genuine sports car rather than a recreational vehicle. Like many small-scale Australian buggy makers of the period, Apollo left little lasting mark on the automotive industry, and details of its production history remain scarce.
