the ghia saguaro is a multipurpose, seven passenger, four-door concept vehicle, designed by ford motor company's ghia design and prototype studio in turin, italy.

"we undertook this design study to prove that not all utility vehicles have to look alike," said fiiippo sapino, managing director of ghia, s.p.a. "with feel that the ghia saguaro would look every bit as much at how on the champs-elysees as it would on off-road trails."

the saguaro design incorporates aerodynamic techniques such as four-aided flush driver and passenger door glass, flush exterior door handles and a fast windshield angle. the coefficient of drag is approximately .29, using fluid dynamic techniques.

the aggressive stance of the saguaro is augmented by 24.8-inch cutside diameter tires and 19.4-inch diameter wheels. high-level air intakes are located inboard of each headlight for improved engine cooling during off-road driving.

the ford concept utility vehicle has an overall height of 54.1-inches.    overall length is 170-inches and width is 67-inches.

the interior features two-three-two seating arrangements both rows of rear seats fold flat to create an interior cargo area is spacious as an intermediate-size station wagon. the rear liftgate wraps over into the roof enabling large objects to be loaded into the cargo area.

the interior of the saquaro has been ergonomically designed.   leather and rugged fabric seat inserts are color-keyed to the saguaro's exterior pearlescent turquoise paint.

"we believe that form and function have been joined together in an innovative and exciting manner," mr. sapino said. "all of us at ghia are extremely interested in seeing how auto show visitors react to this different type of vehicle."

the saguaro was unveiled at the geneva motor show in march 1988.
