Griffith [2]

This American brand was founded by Jack Griffith, a Ford dealer based in Hicksville, New York. Inspired by the success of the Shelby Cobra, Griffith fitted a 4700cc Ford V8 into a TVR Grantura Mk3 that had previously used an MGA 1600cc engine. The resulting car proved very quick, prompting Griffith to persuade TVR to build a special model, which was shipped to his dealership for engine installation.

The first production model was the Griffith 200, offered with engines producing either 195hp or 271hp. In 1964, the car was revised with a shorter tail and enlarged rear windows, becoming the Griffith 400. Approximately 300 examples of both models were built before production ceased in 1965. The design later resurfaced as the TVR Tuscan.

In 1966, Griffith introduced a new car built in Italy by Frank Reisner's Intermeccanica. This steel-bodied coupé and convertible was styled by Bob Cumberford and Franco Scaglione. Although originally intended to use a Ford engine, supply problems led to the adoption of Chrysler V8 engines instead, which proved too heavy and negatively affected the car's handling. Around 90 examples were produced before the project ended, after which it was reborn as the Omega.
