Ikenga

Ikenga was a British car project based in London, associated with the American-born designer David Gittens.

The Ikenga was built on a McLaren M6 Can-Am chassis supplied by Ken Sheppard. Its distinctive coupé bodywork was constructed in aluminium by Williams & Pritchard and was initially presented as a rather block-like shape featuring a forward-hinging central canopy. The design was later revised by the coachbuilders Radford, who gave it a smoother front end that hinged upward as a single piece.

The car was powered by a mid-mounted Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 engine producing 325bhp, paired with a ZF five-speed transmission. It was claimed to achieve a top speed of 162mph (261km/h) and to accelerate from 0 to 60mph (97km/h) in 5.0 seconds.

Among its unusual features were fluid-filled instruments, a distance proximity sensor, a rear-view television camera, and a Perspex boot lid that doubled as an air brake.

David Gittens had announced plans to produce up to 150 examples of the Ikenga, priced at £9,000 each. However, he subsequently joined Radford, and as a result the Ikenga never entered series production, remaining a one-off creation.
