Austin

1971-1978

Austin's South African operations, which existed from 1971 to 1978, were part of the Leyland Car Division located in Blackheath, Cape Province. This branch produced a variety of vehicles, including well-known models such as the Mini, Jaguar, and Rover, alongside some unique designs tailored for the local market.

One of the most notable vehicles produced was the Austin Apache, a 1300 cc model featuring a distinctive body style designed by Michelotti. The Apache was characterized by its built-out boot, which replaced the traditional fastback design. This model was also manufactured in Spain under the name AUTHI Victoria. Additionally, the South African facility produced a six-cylinder version of the Morris Marina, further diversifying its offerings during its operational years.
