Filipinetti was a Swiss automotive brand founded by Georges Filipinetti in 1962, following his background in engineering and experience with notable companies such as Chrysler and Bugatti. The brand emerged from the family business, which was involved in importing Ferrari vehicles and managing a motor museum at the Chateau de Grandson.
The Scuderia Filipinetti was established as a racing team, attracting notable drivers like Jo Siffert, Nino Vacarella, and Mike Parkes. In 1963, Franco Sbarro joined the team and designed the Filipinetti 2+2 sports coupe, which featured a fiberglass body and was powered by a tuned Volkswagen flat-four engine. This model produced 70 horsepower and was equipped with servo-assisted brakes, achieving a top speed of approximately 110 mph (177 km/h). Although two prototypes were completed in 1967, regular production of the coupe did not commence.
In 1972, Filipinetti showcased a development of the Fiat 128 at the Geneva Motor Show, along with announcements for sports-racing versions capable of reaching speeds up to 135 mph (217 km/h). The following year, a tuned version of the Fiat X1/9 was introduced, boasting 190 horsepower. However, after the death of Georges Filipinetti in 1973, plans to produce 100 units of this model were ultimately abandoned, marking the end of the brand's automotive endeavors.
