Brand Data

Company Name: Gareau Motor Car Co.

Place: Montreal

Country: Canada

Gareau Motor Car Company was established in 1910 in Montreal, Quebec, by Detroit-born Charles Gareau and Willy Davidson. The company focused on producing automobiles that catered to the early 20th-century market.

The Gareau 35 was the primary model developed by the company. It was a conventional touring car powered by a 35-horsepower four-cylinder engine. A notable feature of the Gareau 35 was its worm drive differential, which was less common at the time compared to the standard straight or spiral bevel differentials used by many other manufacturers.

Production of the Gareau 35 was limited, with only three units being made. Of these, two were sold to customers, while Charles Gareau retained the third vehicle, which he drove for over a decade. The company’s brief existence and limited production run reflected the challenges faced by early automotive manufacturers in a competitive market.
