SSC releases first public pictures of the "Next generation" - AllCarIndex
shelby supercars - an american supercar manufacturer - has finally released the first official pictures of their brand new supercar which is still nameless and which is still labeled as a "top secret".
a pearl-white mock-up of the ssc's veyron-destroyer has been shown for a limited audience this august and no official details had been known since then until the beginning of september when british top gear magazine featured a world-exclusive article covering the birth of this extraterrestrial-looking hypermobile.
while ssc's "next generation" supercar, as it is temporarily named for this monent, is still in the early stages of development, it is said that several orders for it have already been taken and the car will be available in 2012. with a price tag starting at $979,900, this won't be everyone's daly ride (ssc has already built only 15 examples of the first generation ultimate aero!).
what concerns technical side of the brand-new white bullet, it will be powered by a four-cam 6.8-litre twin-turbo engine which will be able to produce subliminal 1350hp (one thousand three hunder fifty horse power) and rev up to 9000 rpm.
in comparison with its big brother, the new ssc won't have much sensational technical features. suspension, brembo carbon brakes and steering will be the same. dimensions of the new hypercar will also be almost identical. a specific feature for the "next generation" is the one-piece carbon-fiber rims specially developed by an australian company carbon revolution. thus, an extensive use of carbon fiber will enable to reduce weight to 1250 kg (2753 lbs) meaning the power-to-weight ratio will be colossal 1080 hp / tone!
it has already been mentioned that the designer behind what's also known as inside project 280 is jason castriota who has already distinguished himself as a creator of ferrari 599 fiorano, maserati grancabrio, ferrari 612 scaglietti k by pininfarina, one-off rolls-royce hyperion and ferrari p/4 also by pininfarina as well as maserati birdcage 75th concept and bertone mantide.
only the time will show us if the dreams are fulfilled, claims - confirmed and if the ssc is the pacemaker of the upcoming new generation of top-class supercars.
