Toyota has issued the following press release:
FT-Bh: a full hybrid concept study bringing efficiency to new levels
- FT-Bh = Future Toyota – B segment hybrid
- Reducing fuel consumption within an economically viable framework
- 5-pillar approach to maximising efficiency and reducing emissions
- CO2 emissions around 50% lower than current B-segment average
The FT-Bh concept study focuses on 5 key pillars to maximise fuel efficiency and minimise emissions: mass reduction; optimum aerodynamics; powertrain efficiency; thermal energy management and electricity saving.
With a projected weight of less than a 3-door AYGO, but still delivering the roominess of a 5-door B-segment car, it was designed to achieve low emissions within an economically viable production framework. This means no use of exotic and expensive materials or complex procedures, only those already commonplace in the automotive industry.
Further supported by 30% gain in aerodynamic efficiency, optimised energy management and a downsized full hybrid powertrain, the FT-Bh concept study will demonstrate a total vehicle approach to achieving a 50% reduction of CO2 emissions compared to today’s B-Segment average.
The world premiere of the FT-Bh will take place at the Geneva Motorshow on March 6, 2012 at 10:15.
