The Aerotech III was a concept car from Oldsmobile, built as a four-door, four-seat notchback sedan. Oldsmobile stated at the time that it would not enter production in this exact form, though its advanced features were said to be developed enough to be transferable to a production line. Compared with the closely related Buick Park Avenue Essence concept, which shared similar production feasibility, the Aerotech III presented a more sporting appearance rather than the calmer, harmonious lines of its Buick counterpart, reflecting a broader effort within General Motors to give its five American brands more distinct identities.
Its aerodynamic front end featured experimental headlights shaped like small cubes, while the entire roof section, apart from body-colored roof rails, was finished in the same dark tone as the tinted windows. The rear was closed off by a continuous wing, echoing in weakened form the tail treatment of the earlier Aerotech II. The car rode on 17-inch aluminum wheels fitted with wide tires and featured a full-length center console with four individual seats, the rear pair foldable to expand cargo space.
The tilting steering wheel and electronic instrument panel layout mirrored those of the Aerotech II, while the Aerotech III added a near-obstacle detector that warned the driver acoustically and visually during reverse maneuvers. Power came from a turbocharged Quad 4 four-cylinder engine of 2260 cc with DOHC and 16 valves, producing 233 hp, paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
