The Jo-Car was a concept car from Subaru, originally named スバルジョーカー, whose name played on the word "Joker" and reflected its intent as a styling exercise for a fun car, underlined by a vividly bright paint scheme. It was selected as the winning design from an internal idea competition among Subaru employees.
Mechanically, the Jo-Car was based on the Subaru Rex minicar series, though its 544 cc two-cylinder, 6-valve engine, fitted with a supercharger and intercooler, was mounted amidships rather than in its original position. Power went through a continuously variable ECVT automatic transmission using a metal push-belt, driving a permanent four-wheel-drive system.
The body was a roofless spider with two seats. Its steeply raked, side-curved windscreen aligned visually with the short front end, leading into an open sport cockpit. The doors were designed as simple bars, leaving the door cutout beneath them open.
